Thinking out loud – as a toddler!
Greetings to all! I’ve just checked out from the 4 days and 3 nights stay at the BUNGALOW yesterday noon. This was not my very first time staying the BUNGALOW though it’s a different BUNGALOW than the one I’ve stayed before.
As you’ve known that I was on high fever for the past few days since last Tuesday, mummy and daddy decided to take me to see Dr. Dan again on last Friday. Both of them rushed back home from work at 4pm to rush me to the Bungalow. Then, Dr. suggested to them to get me check in to the Bungalow for observations and also to get the ‘special treatment’.

So this is part of the Bungalow’s Xmas decorations at their lobby area. The other side is decorated with snowmen! Nice huh?? I like the red colour leaves and I called it as “Wawuer” (flower). On the ceiling it has many “Tar” hanging above my head… but mummy said they’re snowflakes. Anyway, it looked like Star to me…
Well, their lobby area looked like a 5 star hotel!

So this is my room at the Bungalow. It has two beds. I took the bed near to the window and the other one was unoccupied. I was supposed to get the room at the Kids’ ward but then two bedded rooms sold out already. Hence, I was given a room at the Surgical ward on the same floor as the Kids’ ward.

The Bungalow has a play area for kids at the other wing on the same floor as my room. I enjoyed playing there… However, this place will be closed after office hours!

I have no choice but to stay in my room to play with my cars and channel surfing lor. But then, the TV programs not nice at all

Luckily, daddy brought the laptop and played my favourite Baby Einstein shows for me… hehe.

Ok, now I’m going to talk about the traumatic experiences I had during my stay at the bungalow. I was pretty happy and smiling away to the green uniform nurses at the counter just outside my room. Then, minutes later after resting on the bed, I was swaddled up by the nurses except my left arm and held me down on the bed. I was totally terrified and screaming away loudly for requesting to set me free!!
Then, one the nurses tied a band on my left arm and kept pressing my arm to look for veins. Next, a long needle poked on my arm trying to withdraw some blood. Yup, it’s for blood test according to mummy. The test was to find out whether I caught the Dengue bug or not!
Then, I was given 3ml of Paracetamol for fever… yucks!
After 30 mins later, I was taken to a room at the Kids’ ward. Again I was wrapped up and this time excluded my right arm. I screamed and cried hard to seek for help from mummy but then she was shooed away by the nurses to leave the room!! I got more scared and traumatized without mummy’s presence!! So the picture above showed my right hand after spending the 15 mins in the room with the nurses.

Besides, I also need to take the antibiotic jab and saline water to clear the needle and vein on every 8 hours! Ouch!!

After having all these horrors… all I wanted was my mummy! I don’t want anybody and not even daddy to touch or carry me! So clung to mummy all the time as it’s safe to be with mummy! More ever, I don’t want to eat anything except mummy’s milk and plain water only! No appetite to eat…

Roaming around at the corridor…

Plucking the stars from the Xmas tree…

Phew… luckily the aunty didn’t catch me for plucking the stars!!
Nevertheless, I was terribly phobia of staying inside the room as the nurses will come in and force me to take jabs and meds again! So, I fussed and got cranky every time mummy took me inside of my room or put me on the bed. I refused to go into the room and I would rather roamed around outside of the room even at late night!!
However, for the next 2 days, I didn’t have the energy to walk on my own so I clung to mummy and whined all the time to ask her bring me out of the room…

Fortunately, I was allowed to leave the Bungalow on the 2nd day for few hours but I need to return to the Bungalow before 10pm which was time for my jabs! Therefore, daddy and mummy took me home for a bath as my fever was subsided and seeing me got bored and cranky staying at the Bungalow. After my bath, my face and body developed some rashes… and the Dr. confirmed the rashes are called Roseola aka known as fake measles on the 3rd day! Phew… also good news that no dengue but it’s only viral infection! However, he suggested to mummy to extend my stay for another night to finish up the antibiotics jabs. Mummy agreed and she requested to take me home for the night with the condition to bring me back to take the jabs at 10pm and 8am on the next day! Ya, I missed home terribly… so did mummy as she accompanied me all the time during my stay!
Well, the photo above was taken on the 4th day after taking my last jab waiting to be discharged from the Bungalow. I didn’t cry but complained a little.
And now, I’m glad to be home!! Home sweet home…
No more jabs and no more meds… hooray!!

Before I strolled down and read, I really thought that he’s going on a holiday.
Glad to hear that you are OK liao, Ryan.
Ryan mami says: Haha… the bungalow’s lobby show like a real hotel lobby.
Glad that it’s only Reseola and not Dengue, phew ….. so speedy recover to Ryan and hopefully he will not get to live in that bungalow ever again
BTW, all his picture looks so cute and he is smiling leh ….. doesn’t seems like he hates the place at all
Ryan mami says: Thanks for the well wishes. Haha…that’s because I chose those happy pics but not those ugly whiny face ones
well, chloe experienced such ‘holidays’ too last time.. roseola as well.. some more she was only 7 mth.. so poor thing..
glad that ryan is recovering..
Ryan mami says: Is there a practice of limiting type of food when having Roseola? The elderly ppl says can’t eat rice, eat this, eat that and bla bla bla… only can take bread, milk & water!
Ryan still looks like a hottie in those pix. Wah sey, sick or not sick…. janji hv to look cool all the time eh :p
Samuel was admitted for Viral fever too. His initial PD also suspected Roseola. His doc then said it’s common for toddler 7 – 13 months of age wor.
We got to know later that admission was not compulsory for Roseola. Optional but then better be safe right?
Ryan mami says: The Roseola only appeared when the fever subsided after taking the antibiotics. Even PD didn’t not aware that the fever was due to Roseola.
glad to know ryan is better, poor boy!
Ryan mami says: TQ!
ooo poor Ryan..hope he is smiling now.
he looked a bit slimmer le….
He dont hv appetite?
Roseola is good thing. Once Philip got it, and I google to read more..and its sign of recovery.
Whatever Ryan want to eat now, just give him more lor..and give water more..
*hugs hugs*
Ryan mami says: Ya, I wanted to give him eat whatever he wants as he needs food to heal leh… but then sigh, you know laa… old people say cannot eat this, cannot eat that etc etc etc … *sigh!*
Ji Hin had high fever (up/down/up/down..) for 3 days before, also just right after his 1st year birthday. He had red rashes on whole body only after taking antibiotic. (Not sure whether he is allergic on that antibiotic.) Normally I won’t feed him porridge when he’s fall sick. I only feed him rice cereal or oatmeal to replace the porridge. To add more nutriens, I will add those baby food likes pea, carrot, potato in the cereal. I think cereal is easier to digest compare to porridge.
Ryan is looked thinner in photo…hope he is get back to normal soon.
Ryan mami says: Yalor… thinner already! Futhermore, the elderly at home forbidding him eating food not other than bread, biscuits, milk & water! Sigh…
Poor Ryan got poked so many times. But really thank god it wasn’t dengue fever. Rest well and recover soon ok
Btw Doreen, I’ve got a tag for you.
Ryan mami says: Noted, thanks!
Hope Ryan is getting better now and act same thing happen to my boy on his first fever when he reached 10 month… Only different is mine didn’t stay at the bungalow … Also went for blood test and finally know he is not attacked by dengue… and after few days of fever, whole face and body got rashes…
Ryan mami says: Ya, it’s such a relieved that it’s not dengue!
i’m glad that Ryan is ok already. anyhow, he’s still very cute. my son was admitted to the same bungalow as Ryan on Sept too. He was screaming and yelling when the nurse trying to poke the needle into his tiny hand and i was not allowed to go in with him that time. my heart really pain when i heard him crying non-stop from outside.
Ryan, wish you in good health so you can enjoy the festive of Christmas!you are a brave and cute boy!(really miss you when u don’t update your blog)
Ryan mami says: Ya, it’s heart wrenching being helpless when seeing him crying and screaming in the room! Thanks for visiting my blog… do drop by often
My friend, I know how terrible staying in the bungalow. I stayed there when I was 21 days old for a surgery. My case was worst. I had tube going into my nose besides the drip. Not allowed to drink my Mommy’s milk also.
Glad that you are ok now. Continue to take care.
Ryan mami says: Oh my, what happened to him??
glad to hear tat Ryan is recovering & come back home!
1st i saw the xmas deco, i really tot u went holiday!!!
Ryan look slimmer a bit, need to feed him back~~~
Ryan mami says: Ya lor… tummy flat flat already so need to feed him back a lot
Poor Ryan…. the bandage on his hand is so big!
Good to know that he’s discharged already.
Ryan mami says: Haha… he refused to take a look at his bandaged hand when we asked him to look at it. Also, he didn’t dare to use/move his bandaged hand at first. Few hours later only dare to move it.
I thought you posted a holiday trip?? But why you called it as Bungalow?
Aiyoh.. poor Ryan! Obviously he has lose weight right? Can see the rashes over his face.. Hope he get well soon! *hug hugss*
Ryan mami says: Hehe… a holiday stay at the Bungalow! Erm… hokkien called it “Ang Mo Lau” which means the hospital.
Ya lor, now his weight dropped to 10.4kg! I weighed him before we left the bungalow
Oh so sorry to hear that. I thought you all went for a holiday..haha. Then I saw Ryan’s hand bandaged already…oh poor boy had to endure the traumatic experience. Hope he recovers soon. Take care.
I always feel heart sick when seeing little one admit to hosp. I have been stayed in hosp for 10 days before when I was 21 years old, so for me (as an Adult), I know it is very homesick after a few days stay at a place that is not so comfortable as our home.
- I really feel happy that Ryan is ok now and I hope you will tak e k yourself too..
Glad to hear that Ryan boy back to his home sweet home….
My boy also no appetite to eat for few days and only stick to mummy nen-nen. Its ok, at least he drink.
Now is year end, mummy can take leave and charge more ‘battery’ ya…take care!
Oh no….I know how traumatic it is for your baby to be hospitalised. But Ryan is a good boy, still looks so cheerful
Take care. Bryan was also down with Roseola 6 weeks ago. Very very common.
glad to hear that Ryan is better now!
it must have been very sakit hati to see your precious little one go through so much pain…..

aww…poor baby. glad to know he is better now.
Glad that you are recover now…those needle poke, med, nurses are so horrible to all kids..
Glad that Ryan has been discharged. Luckily it was not dengue…Do get some rest mummy…Take care.
That must have been one *package* of a holiday at the Bungalow huh?
Glad to know he is much better now…
glad to know that he is well now, that’s really torturing for a little boy.
Aiyor I also thot you go where for holiday. Mana tau your bungalow is that type of bungalow. Hahaha… hopefully the small boy getting better now. Take care.
You must be worried hell, I hope Ryan feels better and gets to go to a real bungalow stay instead of this one.
Luckily it wasn’t dengue. I know exactly how u felt abt him being poked for blood n medication. My boy was admitted to the ‘bungalow’ TWICE – for dengue n infection of the gut.
my elder boy had that too… luckily (like you’ve said) its not dengue, or it will be worse!!! yeah…. at least you are at home liao…. *clap clap clap*
